Can an app help my parent stay active at home?

It can help as a gentle prompt and a simple record. A good app shows what to do in a clear way, lets the person count what they did, and keeps pressure low. An app cannot replace a doctor or qualified healthcare professional, and it only helps if your parent wants to use it.

Updated October 2026.

The short version

  • An app can show a movement and count what was done.
  • Look for simple, large, calm screens.
  • Check what it shares and with whom.
  • No app replaces professional advice.
  • It only works if they want to use it.

What to look for

  1. Easy to follow. Large text, a clear picture, one thing at a time.
  2. Gentle tone. No rankings, no streak pressure, no scolding.
  3. Privacy. What does it collect, and is sharing their choice?
  4. No ads or trackers.
  5. Honest limits. It should say it is not medical advice.

What an app cannot do

  • Judge whether a movement is safe for a particular person.
  • Give medical advice.
  • Make someone want to move.

Where KinectedCare fits

Get Stronger is a short practice on the phone of the person you care for: a simple figure shows a movement, they count what they did, save it, and see their last seven days. Nothing is measured. There is no score. It is a phone feature for the person you care for, reached from a card on their CareLog. Their practice stays on their phone unless they choose to share it with the people in their CareView, and turning sharing off deletes what they shared. It reads nothing from Apple Health or Google Health. It is not on the watch.

Get Stronger sits alongside the rest of KinectedCare: the HELP button and the CareTeam. See the Get Stronger page for what it does.

Before you start. Get Stronger is for educational use and does not replace professional medical advice. Talk with a doctor or qualified healthcare professional before starting any new exercise program, and stop if you feel faint, dizzy, short of breath or in pain.

Questions people ask

Does the app measure how my parent moves?
No. Get Stronger does not use the camera or motion sensors. Your parent counts what they did and saves it.
Can I see my parent’s progress?
Your parent can choose to share their practice with the people in their CareView. Sharing is off until they say yes, and they can turn it off at any time.
Does it work on a smartwatch?
Not today. Get Stronger is a phone feature.
Is this medical advice?
No. It is general information, and Get Stronger is for educational use. Talk with a doctor or qualified healthcare professional before starting any new exercise program.
Does KinectedCare replace emergency services?
No. KinectedCare is not a medical device or an emergency service. If someone may be hurt, call local emergency services first.
