What does it mean when KinectedCare says my parent's phone went quiet?
It means your parent’s phone has stopped checking in with KinectedCare. That is often something ordinary, such as a dead battery, no signal or a phone switched off, and it can also mean the phone cannot send an alert right now. Try calling your parent, then someone nearby. When the phone checks in again, you get an all-clear.
Updated October 2026.
The short version
- The phone stopped checking in; the notice does not say why.
- Often it is ordinary: battery, signal, phone off.
- Call your parent, then a neighbor or friend nearby.
- If you are worried and cannot reach them, ask for a welfare check.
- An all-clear arrives when the phone checks in again.
What the notice tells you
The notice says that KinectedCare has not heard from your parent’s phone. That is all. It does not say they are hurt, and it does not say they are fine. It says the safety net might be down, so a call is worth making.
Common reasons
- The battery is dead or the phone was left uncharged overnight.
- The phone is off, in airplane mode, or out of signal.
- The phone’s own battery saver closed the app in the background.
- Location is switched off or limited for KinectedCare, so the background check cannot run, or the app has not been opened for a long while.
- The phone is broken, lost or in another room.
What to do, in order
- Call your parent. If there is no answer, try again after a few minutes.
- Call someone close by: a neighbor, friend or family member who can knock on the door.
- Check the CareTeam. Someone may already have spoken with your parent.
- If you are still worried, ask for a welfare check from local services. See what to do when a parent is not answering the phone.
- If someone may be hurt, call local emergency services first.
When the phone comes back
When the phone checks in again, the CareTeam gets an all-clear, so no one keeps worrying after the phone is back. If the phone goes quiet again later, you will be told again.
After it happens
If it keeps happening, talk with your parent. Often a simple change helps, such as a bedside charger or a note to check the phone maker’s background settings. See what happens if a parent’s phone dies or goes offline.1
