Which smartwatches have fall detection?

Two widely available options are the Apple Watch (SE or later, Series 4 or later, and Ultra) and the Google Pixel Watch (Pixel Watch through Pixel Watch 4). Both can detect a hard fall and start an emergency response. Other makers offer it too, so check each model’s own details. No watch detects every fall, and KinectedCare does not detect falls itself.1

Updated October 2026.

The short version

  • Apple Watch: SE or later, Series 4 or later, and Ultra, per Apple.
  • Pixel Watch: Pixel Watch through Pixel Watch 4, per Google.
  • Match the watch to the phone: Apple Watch with an iPhone, Pixel Watch with an Android phone.
  • Check age and country availability, and whether the feature is turned on.
  • No watch detects every fall.

The two to start with

  • Apple Watch. Apple lists Fall Detection on Apple Watch SE or later, Series 4 or later, and Ultra or later. It turns on automatically for people who entered an age of 55 or older, and it is available only to adults.
  • Google Pixel Watch. Google lists Fall Detection on Pixel Watch, Pixel Watch 2, 3 and 4. It is turned on in the watch’s Safety settings, is available only to adults, and is offered in a list of countries.

Other watch makers also sell models with fall detection. We have not verified their details here, so check the maker’s page for the exact model.

What to check on any watch

  1. Is fall detection on this model? It differs by model and generation.
  2. Is it turned on? Some watches turn it on by default for certain ages; others need you to enable it.
  3. Where does it work? Availability depends on the country and sometimes the age you entered.
  4. How does it call for help? Through the watch’s cellular connection, or through a nearby phone?
  5. Does it fit your parent’s phone? An Apple Watch pairs with an iPhone; a Pixel Watch is designed for Android phones.

What fall detection does, and does not, do

When a watch detects a hard fall, its own system handles the emergency response. That can include an alert, a countdown and a call to emergency services. Both makers say it cannot detect all falls, and high-impact activity may trigger it by mistake. Treat it as one layer of safety, and keep a way for your parent to ask for help themselves.

Where KinectedCare fits

KinectedCare supports Apple Watch and Wear OS watches. When a fall-detection-capable watch detects a fall, the watch’s operating system handles the emergency response and KinectedCare notifies the CareTeam, so the family knows too.1 Your parent can also press HELP on the phone or watch to alert everyone at once. Questions people ask

Which smartwatch has the best fall detection?
Independent head-to-head testing is limited, and both Apple and Google say their watches cannot detect all falls. Choose a model that suits your parent’s phone and that they will wear and charge.
Do I need an iPhone for an Apple Watch?
Apple Watch pairs with an iPhone. Fall Detection also needs a cellular, Wi-Fi calling or satellite connection from the watch or a nearby iPhone.
Is fall detection on by default?
On Apple Watch it turns on automatically for people who entered an age of 55 or older. On Pixel Watch you turn it on in the Safety settings, according to Google’s setup steps.
Can a child or teenager use fall detection?
No. Both makers limit it to adults.
Does KinectedCare detect falls?
No. Fall detection is the watch’s own feature. When a fall-detection-capable smartwatch detects a fall, the watch’s operating system handles the emergency response, and KinectedCare notifies the CareTeam.
Does KinectedCare replace emergency services?
No. KinectedCare is not a medical device or an emergency service. If someone may be hurt, call local emergency services first.
